Our Purpose
LOVING GOD
As we place a priority on Worship to be offered to God with humility, joyfulness and excitement. Our worship services are designed to honor God through music and the preaching of His Word. We want to motivate those attending to not only worship God in the service but to love and honor Him throughout the week.
LOVING OTHERS
By providing a place of belonging, unity, family encouragement and loving relationships. We want to demonstrate God’s love by meeting the spiritual, physical and emotional needs of those in our church and our community. We believe in discovering and developing our spiritual gifts and serving others unselfishly.
Changing Lives
History tells how the gospel has changed individuals, changed communities and changed nations. Today we are challenged to fulfill Christ’s great commission to reach the lost and change the lives of those around us who are bound by sin and satan. By God’s grace we will follow His command to “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15
Our History
In June of 1966 Reverend Howard Pittman, his wife Jessie and their two small children arrived in High Point with the mission in mind of establishing a Free Will Baptist Church. They endured many obstacles and times of discouragement during the early beginnings of the church. With no permanent meeting place they had to meet wherever they could including their home, other members homes, store buildings, a vacant church and Oakview School. The church was officially organized in May 1969. Land was purchased on Johnson Street and was paid off in November 1971. The first service in the current facility was held on the first Sunday in January 1973. A fellowship hall and kitchen were added in 1991. Reverend Pittman and this group of believers had a vision for a church that would carry out a mission of winning the lost, edifying the saints, contending for the faith, building strong families, showing forth the love of Christ and fulfilling the Great Commission. Reverend Pittman has since gone to be with the Lord.
Rev. Conrad Williford served as interim pastor from May, 2011 to April, 2012. Rev. Williford states, “It has been a privilege to minister to such a caring group of people. Their spirit of unity and love for the Lord and others makes for a church that will continue to grow and bless many lives in the future.”
Beginning April, 2012, Reverend Doug McGee became pastor of Lakeview. He states,”After 25 years of pastoring I retired from the pastorate. After a few months, I felt that God still had a work for me to do and I am grateful that God has led me to the people of Lakeview Free Will Baptist Church.
Rev. McGee served as Pastor until October 2019. At that time he left to again Pastor the folks at Arrington Heights Free Will Baptist Church in Lexington, NC, where he had pastored for 25 years prior to coming to Lakeview.
In September 2020, Rev. Carroll Cullipher came to be our Pastor. He and his wife, Diane, came to Lakeview from the East 38th Street Free Will Baptist Church in Anderson, Indiana, where they ministered for 7 years. They are native North Carolinians, having their roots in Ahoskie. They are charter members of Liberty FWB Church there. “We believe the Lord has brought us to High Point, where there is still a work to be done for the Kingdom. We look forward to what He has for us as we minister alongside these precious folks at Lakeview.”
